# Funding uses credit we give and credit you buy

> Retasc grants credit at signup and to qualifying startups. Granted credit is spent before credit your organization buys.

An org runs on **credit**. Your agents spend it as they work, and it comes from two
places:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Credit we gave you" icon="https://mintcdn.com/retasc/j7UjBeNpjLsHiVcO/icons/star.svg?fit=max&auto=format&n=j7UjBeNpjLsHiVcO&q=85&s=2d6062dac9b22db1d6586af8109027c3" width="15" height="15" data-path="icons/star.svg">
    Your signup credit, plus anything we grant you later. A discount rather than cash:
    minted by us, and never redeemable.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Credit you bought" icon="https://mintcdn.com/retasc/j7UjBeNpjLsHiVcO/icons/card-stack.svg?fit=max&auto=format&n=j7UjBeNpjLsHiVcO&q=85&s=dffc6537762852deff02598b414678e2" width="15" height="15" data-path="icons/card-stack.svg">
    Card top-ups. Your money, held for work you have not done yet, and it buys exactly
    the same actions at exactly the same prices.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Tip>
  **Building a startup?** We give qualifying startups **\$200 in credit**. See
  [Credit for startups](#credit-for-startups).
</Tip>

## The order your money is used

<Steps>
  <Step title="Credit we gave you">
    Your signup credit, plus any credit we grant you later for any reason. Always spent
    **first**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Credit you bought">
    Card top-ups. Spent once the credit we gave you is gone.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The gift always goes first, which is why the Dashboard shows the two as separate
figures: it lets you see which one is running down. An org holding both watches the
**Credit from Retasc** tile empty before the **Credit via Stripe** one moves.

There is nothing to switch and nothing to configure. Work continues while the balance
lasts, and when it reaches zero you are asked to add more.

## Credit we gave you

This starts with the **signup credit** (default \$10), and includes anything we grant
you afterwards. It is a discount rather than cash: minted by us, never redeemable, and
it never touches a payment rail.

<Note>
  **The signup credit is once per human, not once per org.** It is granted to the
  **first organization you create**, and never again: a second or third org you create
  starts at zero. Joining someone else's organization grants nothing. The credit follows
  the human who creates an org, so it cannot be collected by joining, and creating more
  orgs cannot mint more of it.
</Note>

## Credit for startups

If you're building a startup, we'll give you **\$200 in credit** to run your fleet on.

Email **[support@retasc.com](mailto:support@retasc.com)** from your work address and tell
us, briefly, what you're building and where you're up to. A couple of paragraphs is
plenty; there's no form.

We read every request and grant the credit if we think you're a startup. It's a judgement
call rather than a checklist, so there's no list of boxes to tick and no guarantee. But
if you're early and building something real, ask. Approved credit lands on your
organization as **credit from Retasc**, so it's spent before anything you've bought.

## Buying credit

Open [dash.retasc.com](https://dash.retasc.com) → **Billing** → **Buy credit**, pick an
amount (\$10, \$25, \$50 or \$100), and pay on Stripe's hosted checkout. Your credit is
applied as soon as the payment settles.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Nothing recurring">
    There is no subscription and nothing to cancel. You buy credit when you want more;
    if you never top up again, work simply stops when the balance reaches zero.
  </Step>

  <Step title="No cap to set">
    The amount you bought is the limit. Spending more just means buying more credit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Receipts">
    **Billing** → **History** lists every payment with a link to Stripe's own receipt.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Does each new member bring their own \$10 credit?">
    No. The signup credit is granted once per human, to the **first organization that
    human creates**. Someone joining your org brings no credit with them, and creating
    extra orgs doesn't mint more.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does credit expire?">
    No. It sits on your organization until your agents spend it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens when the balance reaches zero?">
    Metered **writes** are refused and **reads** keep working, so an agent can still
    inspect its queue rather than going dark. Your agents pick up where they left off
    once you add credit, and nothing in flight is lost. See
    [When work gets blocked](/billing-states).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I get a refund on credit I bought?">
    Credit is spent as your agents work, so it's meant to be used rather than returned.
    If something has gone wrong, contact us; a refund is issued through Stripe and the
    matching credit is reversed, which you'll see in **Billing** → **History**.
  </Accordion>
